The Gobitis Case:

Minersville School District at the Supreme Court

by Attorney Edward M. Brennan

On Thursday, October 22, 2026, Attorney Edward M. Brennan gave a fabulous presentation, both instructive and entertaining, on the events and human elements leading up to and following the 1940 U.S. Supreme Court case of the Minersville School District v. Gobitis. The Court decided that students could be compelled to to salute the flag despite their religious beliefs. The audience of more than 35 was completely captivated by Attorney Brennan's clear explanation of the facts of the case, the impact on the Gobitis family and all Jehovah's Witnesses, and its relevance today. The Q&A session was lively with the audience fully engaged. Thank you to Attorney Brennan and all who attended and to the Valley Road Venue and MAHS volunteers for a wonderful evening!
